Op.Dr. Barış Gürcü

Dr. Barış Gürcü was born in 1977 in Denizli, where he completed his primary, secondary, and high school education.

He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and completed his residency training in General Surgery at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2008, earning the title of Specialist in General Surgery.

He received extensive endoscopy training at the General Surgery Endoscopy Centres of Gazi University, Kafkas University, and Ege University, obtaining certification and competence in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.

Since 2011, he has developed a strong clinical interest in bariatric interventions, particularly intragastric balloon applications, and has managed numerous obesity-related cases.

From 2008 to 2009, he served as both General Surgery Specialist and Chief Physician at Kağızman State Hospital. Between 2010 and 2013, he continued his career in private hospitals as a General Surgery Specialist and Chief Physician.

From July 2013 to February 2014, Dr Gürcü worked as a surgical fellow under Prof. Dr. Ahmet Çoker and Prof. Dr. Selman Sökmen, further enhancing his expertise in advanced surgical techniques.

Between January and June 2024, he worked at the Obesity Centre of Ufuk University Faculty of Medicine, and during the same period, he completed the Ministry of Health–approved Obesity Competency Certificate programme. He also worked as a specialist surgeon in the team of Prof. Dr. Oktay Banlı.

Dr Gürcü has authored numerous national and international publications. As of July 2024, he has been working at Lokman Hekim Esnaf Hospital as a Specialist in General Surgery. He is married and has two children.
